Capricho Beach House is a small ecologic beachfront hotel located in a protected nature reserve on the Barra de Santiago peninsula in the western part of El Salvador. Spectacular natural surroundings frame this property, with a long stretch of sandy beach in front and the calm waters of the estuary (lagoon) at the back. The entire peninsula is dotted with coconut palms, and the lush mangroves are just a short boat ride away.
The spacious rooms have views of the beach and offer all the amenities a modern tourist could need, such as WiFi, private baths, and air conditioning. We have made a conscious choice not to place TVs in the rooms in order to encourage our guests to be outdoors and explore the amazing nature that surrounds us, and to enjoy the spectacular starry skies found at this location at night.
Our concept is to offer guests a relaxed and tranquil stay to rest and reconnect with nature. You will wake up to the whispers of the tropical local fauna and fall asleep to the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. We encourage our guests to refrain from producing loud music and other noise to ensure that all our guests get a well-deserved mental rest. Our ecological approach to tourism includes, among other things, having a low carbon footprint as we are almost fully self-sustained with solar energy. We use mostly local and natural materials in the construction of the hotel, such as royal palm leaves for roofs and wooden beams (using ancient building techniques as well as local resources).
The property has several gardens, areas to relax in the sun and shade with hammocks and lounge chairs, numerous palm-thatched buildings, a restaurant, and a 10-meter pool with both a shallow area for children and a 2-meter deep plunge for adults.
Our solar panels produce most of our energy to have a low environmental impact, although we are connected to the grid so there is nonstop energy supply regardless of the weather. Solar-powered lamps illuminate the grounds, and we practice recycling.
The restaurant on the premises is exclusive to hotel guests and is not open to the general public. We offer a variety of dishes, emphasizing local, healthy, homemade-style meals. Opening hours are from 6 am to 9 pm.
This is the perfect place for nature lovers, as the location is conducive to enjoying the amazing wildlife in this protected natural area. Tours into the mangroves to observe birds, reptiles, crocodiles, and mammals top the list, along with surf activities, observing the great ocean turtles, and experiencing other ecological conservation programs.
Capricho Beach House consists of:
Just 3 kms from the sleepy fishing village, La Barra de Santiago, in the western part of El Salvador, you'll find Capricho Beach House. Its unique location, close to the tip of the peninsula of a long-stretched sandbar, with access to both the Pacific Ocean and the estuary, makes this a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. You can walk for kilometers along solitary beaches and feel as if on a deserted island.
This is a very safe area. You will have the luxury of being, most of the time, the only person on the beach and will have no interruptions or people offering you things to purchase. You will feel at ease sharing the beach mostly with the occasional local fisherman. The sunsets are particularly breathtaking in this place, with coconut palms lined up as far as the eye can see; this is nothing short of a small paradise.
A short walk will take you to the tip of the peninsula, La Bocana, and on the estuary side, your eyes will rest on an impressive panoramic view of the volcanic mountain chain from the Volcan de Agua in Guatemala all the way to the Santa Ana and Izalco volcano in El Salvador.
The lush foothills of the El Imposible National Park serve as the backdrop of the extensive mangrove forest right behind Capricho. The beach house is situated right on the beach where you can catch some great waves; it’s a perfect place for both advanced surfers and newcomers alike.
Barra de Santiago is a protected natural area and has the 3rd biggest and best-preserved mangrove forest in the country. This is an excellent place for bird watching and an opportunity to see crocodiles in their natural habitat. Barra de Santiago is a pioneer in turtle conservation and turtle farms. The isolation of this beach and the conservation awareness among the villagers have protected the turtles that come to deposit their eggs.
Every year, thousands of baby turtles are hatched and return to the ocean. Many of the birds and mammals found in the reserve are endangered species. You can do tours into the nearby mangrove forests accompanied by local guides who will tell you about the diversity of animal and plant life that exists here, as well as the rich history of this place, once inhabited by indigenous tribes who left behind pyramids and other unsolved mysteries.
THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO USE AS A BASE TO DISCOVER AMAZING PLACES IN THE AREA.
